THROUGH THE VEIL

The veil of flesh and squalor Lord You chose in virgin birth

When stepping down from glory to embrace this sinful earth

‘Though few believed You are the Source of Light for all the World

A Messenger before You cried ‘Behold the Lamb of God’

The veil of heaven parted over where You were baptised

The Spirit came; The Father spoke, His Son identified

Who lived to seek and save the lost; to love, forgive and heal

But few anticipated that You came to tear the veil

 

From the highest heights above, right down to where we are

The Way was opened up, the path to God is clear

And still Your hands of love are reaching out so far

To lead us through the veil; for You came through the veil –

to where we are

 

The veil of sin prevented us from access to God’s throne

But You became the Great High Priest who for our sins atoned

By taking them upon Yourself and shedding Your own blood

Now ransomed and forgiven we are reconciled to God

The veil of death had lingered over man since Adam fell

And Satan had his way with those he beckoned into hell

But Lord You came to break the curse and died to bring new life

Eternity secured for us by Your great sacrifice

 

From the highest heights above, right down to where we are

The Way was opened up, the path to God is clear

And still Your hands of love are reaching out so far

So lead us though The Veil, to see your scars of nail,

and the wound of spear

 

The veil of separation in the temple way back then

Of such a height and width that it could not be moved by men

Was torn from top to bottom when You died for us that day

There’s no restricted access now - the barrier is away!

The veil of mystery removed from God’s most holy place

So through the veil of Jesus we can meet Him face to face

And God will never dwell again in temples made by hand

For He was moving out that day into the hearts of man

 

And still Your hands of love are reaching out so far

So lead us through the veil, lead us through the veil…

Lord, lead us through the veil - to where You are

 

The veil of flesh You wore as You embraced humanity

Became the veil of sin You bore when dying on the tree

The veil of death upon You ‘til You rose on Easter Day

When heaven’s veil was opened by the New and Living Way

The veil of human suffering one day will be released

For every child of God will reunite in heaven’s peace

And we will then be like You, in an instant we will change

When every eye beholds the Lamb of God who comes to reign

 

From the highest heights above, right down to where we are

The Way will open up to meet You in the air

We’ll see Your hands of love and praise You evermore

For tearing through the veil, for leading through the veil –

to where You are
