SURELY THIS IS GOD’S OWN SON (TORN VEIL)
Words & Music: Nigel Cameron
Who would turn from splendour to the world,
the world He had created - surrendering
To become redemption’s plan unfurled:
The Saviour long awaited - a humble King?
As a baby born, his glory veiled in flesh,
this flesh that would be torn.
Who would be the one unblemished Lamb,
the Lamb of sacrifice, as an offering
To remove the veil of death from man,
And pay for our new life - by suffering?
This beloved son, in whom you were well pleased,
was pleased to be the one.
Surely this is God’s own son, hanging on a tree,
this is God’s own son.
Surely this is God’s own son, dying there for me,
this is God’s own son.
Who became our sin, the darkest veil,
The veil of separation - condemned by God
To endure the pain of thorn and nail,
Our punishment upon Him, and shed his blood:
On a cross of shame, this God forsaken lamb,
the lamb that would be slain.
(Chorus)
On a cross of shame, this God forsaken lamb,
the lamb that has been slain.
And the veil was torn open so we can come through
into Your holy presence within;
His body was broken yet we are made new
by His blood fully cleansed from our sin.
And the stone rolled away so that we could see in-
to the tomb where his body once lay
He arose from the dead to appear unto men
And His Spirit is with us today.
Yes, His Spirit is with us today,
Yes, His Spirit is with us today
Who is now enthroned at God’s right hand,
whose hands the nail-prints show? We believe -
He’s the Son of God and Son of Man,
who lives that all may know, and receive -
The power of God to save, the peace of God for life,
and life beyond the grave.
Surely this is God’s own son, Saviour of the world,
this is God’s own son.
Surely this is God’s own son, redemption’s plan unfurled,
this is God’s own son.
