No other cross of stone or wood

Not by tradition or doing good

Nothing can make us right with God

But the cross of Jesus

More than a memory of the past and gone

It brings forgiveness for everyone

This is the cross my name was on

He bore the cost to release us

No charm or trapping of religion

Not in the ritual repetition

Nothing can bring us back to God

But the cross of Jesus

More than a fashion accessory

Greater than all artistic imagery

This is the cross he bore for me

It’s the cross of Jesus

What a place of punishment for Him

Where He chose to pour His life away

And the price was paid for all our sin

Then He arose again on Easter Day!

What a sign of glory to the King

And for us to signify His rule

With a song of victory we sing

‘The Empty Cross’ to show our hearts our full

No holy statue or saintly grave

No other symbol upon a page

Nothing can show the power of God

But the cross of Jesus

More than an emblem from history

It opens up eternal mystery

This is the cross of sweet victory
