IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ME

Words & Music: Nigel Cameron

God the only Being who is good

Why do we not take You at Your word?

Ruler of the universe You made

Why have we so often disobeyed?

God how You must really hate my sin

All the pride and arrogance within

And your justice cannot be denied

Yet You tell me that’s why Jesus died

It should have been me, it should have been me

Surely the guilty one should pay the price?

It should have been me, it should have been me

But for Your sinless Son who gave His life

He was tortured mocked and beaten

Though he had done no wrong

Punished for my sin and left to die

Abandoned and forsaken

Forgiving everyone

It was finished with his final cry

God the One and Only full of grace

Light of all the world who took my place

Risen Lord to whom I owe my life

I’m so thankful for His sacrifice
