The hands of Christ, the caring hands

They nailed them to a cross of wood

The feet that climbed the desert road

And brought the news of peace with God

They pierced them through.

The kingly Christ, the saviour-king

They ringed his head with briars woven;

The lips that freely spoke of heaven,

that told the world of sins forgiven,

They mocked with wine.

Too late for life, in death to late

They tried to maim him with a spear,

For sacrilage they could not bear –

The sabbath comes, so they must tear

The heart from God.

To him be praise, all praise to him

Who died upon the cross of pain;

Whose agonies were not in vain –

For Christ the Lod is risen again

And brings us joy.

And brings us joy….
